The Courage to Uplift a Community
The Chakma community in Mizoram has long faced systematic challenges including limited access to quality education, inadequate healthcare, and under‑resourced infrastructure due to historic neglect and socio‑economic marginalization. Despite constitutional protections and the existence of the Chakma Autonomous District Council, many Chakma areas continue to struggle with basic services, educational facilities, and opportunities for growth — making survival itself a daily challenge for families and children.
Within this backdrop of hardship, Mr. Sudip Chakma’s journey stands out as a powerful story of perseverance, compassion, and unwavering dedication. Born and raised in the remote Chakma village of Tuichawng in Mizoram’s Lunglei district, Sudip witnessed firsthand the profound struggles faced by his community — from children forced to drop out of school due to lack of access, to families without basic infrastructure and support.
For more than 13 years, he worked tirelessly to bring quality education to underprivileged Chakma children. With very limited resources and connectivity, Mr. Sudip devoted late nights and early mornings to building trust with donors both near and far, raising funds, and laying the foundation for meaningful change. His vision led to the establishment of Mahabodhi Residential School, a beacon of hope for children who previously had to leave their village for education or drop out altogether.
Yet, Mr. Sudip’s journey wasn’t without setbacks. Even after years of dedicated service, structural governance challenges and lack of transparent support forced him to step away from the school he helped build — a painful and emotional decision rooted not in bitterness, but in a deep commitment to his values and the well‑being of the community. This sacrifice fueled his resolve to start Global Compassion Foundation, an organization born from lived struggle and grounded in the belief that compassion must be backed by action.
